Text transcribed from caption: POPE’S PALACE AT AVIGNON REOPENED #S-1578 The Pope’s Palace at Avignon, France, shown here, has been opened again as a church for the first time since it was confiscated during the French Revolution 150 years ago. The local bishop, Msgr. Liobet, received a message of congratulation from Pope Pius XII when he finally succeeded in bringing about annulment of a law forbidding Mass to be celebrated in the palace. Hunting Horse, Keowas Indian, converted to Christianity 50 years ago, served as a scout under General Custer, and was intimate enough with General Sherman to call him “Red Whiskers.” More than 100 persons -- relative, military men from Ft. Text transcribed from caption: NOTED CATHOLIC MISSION TO BE RESTORED #C-1595 SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. -- The famed swallows of Capistrano, which have been returning here each St. Joseph’s Day for more than a century, will be able to keep their rendezvous at the mission built by Father Miguel Jose Junipero Serra for another hundred years at least. For San Juan Capistrano, and other missions like Santa Barbara, San Fernando and Luis Obispo, which were built between 1769 and 1777, are to be restored. The restoration will be accomplished with the aid of a $500,000 fund given the Catholic Church here by the Hearst Foundation, Inc. Text transcribed from caption: NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH TO RISE ON HIROSHIMA’S RUINS #1727 HIROSHIMA, Japan -- Devastation such as this at the Roman Catholic missionaries’ residence followed the dropping of the atom bomb which levelled all buildings on the grounds. A new church will be built here, however, in commemoration of the 200,000 natives of the city who died in the disaster. Father Hugo Lassalle, S.J., was in the building which stood here when the bomb dropped, but escaped with serious cuts and bruises. He has erected a hut (right) where he lives and holds services.
