Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick is an ordained minister who served for fifteen years as the Director of the Worldwide Ministries Division before becoming Stated Clerk. He served in this capacity from 1996-2008 and, at the conclusion of his service, was elected by the General Assembly as Stated Clerk Emeritus. His other leadership roles included Co-moderator of the General Assembly Special Committee on the Belhar Confession and member of the Board of Directors of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians. Dr. Gary Demarest was born on January 16, 1926 to Garrett and Viola Rusthoi Demarest. He was raised in California and as a Baptist. He attended Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, California) and graduated in 1950. He was ordained in the Presbytery of Seattle in 1952. Demarest served the Church in several pastoral capacities, and he was also the Director of Evangelism for the General Assembly from 1988 to 1993. He co-chaired the Theological Task Force on Peace, Unity, and Purity of the Church.
