McKay, 90-year-old spiritual leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), leads in applause for the chief executive. Mr. Kennedy had just paid tribute to Mormon pioneers in a major address at the historic Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. “The qualities of the founders of this community are qualities we seek in all Americans -- courage, patience, faith, self-reliance and perseverance, and, above all, an unflagging determination to see right prevail,” he said.
