Text transcribed from caption: SUGGESTED FOR USE IN CONNECTION WITH REFORMATION DAY, OCT. 31, 1949 LUTHER BEFORE CHARLES V #1574 Three months after the Papal ban was pronounced against him, Martin Luther appeared before Emperor Charles V. But his impassioned oratory failed to influence the emperor (shown rising from his throne) and the ban was confirmed by imperial authority at the Diet of Worms, little more than a month after the scene above took place.
