Msgr. Stanovsky was condemned to death after the assassination of Reinhardt Heydrich, Nazi “butcher” of Lidice, but the sentence was commuted to imprisonment after the intervention of King Victor Emmanuel of Italy, who is a personal friend of the Czech prelate.
