Anderson, S.M., chaplain to African Catholic college students since 1963, has a “campus” which covers most of the continent below the Sahara. In his ministry he travels extensively, visiting 37 colleges and universities and working with 40 other priest-chaplains. Of the 37 schools of higher learning, 14 are in South Africa, and only one of them is Catholic -- the Lovanium in Leopoldville, the Congo. Father Anderson’s post is that of chaplain of the African Secretariat of Pax Romana, an international Catholic student movement. He was in Washington, D.C. recently for a Pax Romana meeting. Concerning his work as a roving missionary for campuses, the Cleveland-born priest believes that the best hope for Africa’s future lies in the native Catholic student. College graduates, he says, move into the mainstream of African national life and assume top political and administrative positions. Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (L-10D-64-NAB)
