An excerpt from his prayer: “Hold us, we pray, and the people of America, calm and steady and full of faith for the Republic in this tragic hour of our history. God save the state and empower her for whatever awaits for the great world role she has been called to fill in this time of destiny.” Dr. Harris, who said the President’s death marked a “great and tragic loss to the nation,” has been Senate chaplain for 15 years.
