Text transcribed from caption: P-31233 METHODISTS NAME NEGRO BISHOP FOR WHITE AREA SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Bishop Prince A Taylor Jr., (left) will be the first Negro bishop of The Methodist Church to supervise a predominantly white area. His assignment to direct the work of Methodist churches in a newly-created episcopal area in New Jersey, with headquarters at Princeton, was made during the quadrennial meeting of the Northeast Jurisdiction of the denomination at Syracuse, N.Y. He is shown here with Bishop Newell S. Booth, who also was assigned to a new episcopal area, in Central Pennsylvania with headquarters in Harrisburg.
