Worshippers greet dawn in Badlands.
Text transcribed from caption: P-31410 WORSHIPPERS GREET DAWN IN BADLANDS SOUTH DAKOTA -- Worshippers from a nearby trailer-tent city of vacationers devoutly greet the dawn in the spectacular arid setting of South Dakota's badlands. Leading the service is David Johnson of Denison, Iowa, a graduate of Dubuque (Ia.) Seminary who will be ordained as a minister of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. He is one of some 200 college and seminary students conducting a Christian ministry to more than one million vacationing Americans under the Ministry in the National Parks program of the National Council of Churches. Summer programs are underway in 36 parks in the 12-year-old program and winter and year-round ministries are established in nine other recreational areas.
