Pope takes first helicopter flight.
Text transcribed from caption: C-31401 POPE TAKES FIRST HELICOPTER FLIGHT CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy -- With his safety belt secured, a smiling Pope Paul VI waves good-bye from a helicopter before a 75-mile flight from Castel Gandolfo to the medieval city of Orvieto. Landing on a site about two miles from the town, the Pope motored to the ancient Orvieto Cathedral as crowds lining the streets shouted greetings. At the cathedral the Pope celebrated a Mass and delivered a brief homily on man's need for spiritual and material welfare. The service marked the 700th anniversary of the Feastday of Corpus Christi, established throughout the worldwide Church by the Pope Urban IV in a bull dated Sept. 8, 1264. The Pope's helicopter flight was the first ever taken by a pontiff. Last January Paul VI became the first Pope to use an airplane when he visited the Holy Land.
