PAPAL NUNCIO WORKS FOR PEACE

SANTO DOMINGO--Conferring with government and rebel leaders in Santo

Domingo is Archbishop Emanuele Clarizio, Papal Nuncio to the Dominican

Republic, who has worked constantly for peace in this civil war-torn

nation. The prelate is facing junta leader Brig. Gen. Antonio Imbert

Barreras (left). Archbishop Clarizio was instrumental in the signing

of a cease-fire as the Organization of American States recruited an

inter-American military force to keep the peace. He was well qualified

for the job, being an experienced diplomat with long service in the

Vatican Secretariat of State.
