PRIEST AND 18 OTHERS ARRESTED DURING ABORTION CLINIC SIT-IN
ST. LOUIS--The Rev. James J. Danis, a Roman Catholic priest of St. Louis, wearing a sweat shirt above,
waits in a police patrol wagon after being arrested with 18 others
on trespassing charges, during a sit-in protest recently at
the Regency Park Gynecological Center.
Father Danis was arrested when he attempted to prevent a young girl
from entering the clinic. The priest said he joined the demonstration
"to try to stop someone from killing her baby."
The demonstrators, which included a group from the Presbyterian
Covenant Theological Seminary, were there protesting an International Women's
Day observance being held at the local Grace Methodist Church -- where an
anti-abortion feminist group called Life and Equality had been refused
exhibition space for not supporting the International Women's Year
position on abortion.
