'LIE-IN' AT WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Members of peace groups from New York
City, including the Episcopal and Catholic Peace Fellowships, the
Fellowship of Reconciliation, and students and faculty from Union
Theological Seminary, gather in Lafayette Park, across Pennsylvania
Avenue from the White House, for a brief memorial service for those
killed in Vietnam (top photo).
Following the service, about 150 demonstrators crossed the
avenue and tried to gain access to the White House to deliver a list
of Vietnamese dead to the President. Denied admittance, the group
staged a "lie-in" on the driveway (bottom photo). All were
arrested.
The demonstrators were taking part in a series of "Daily Death
Toll" anti-war protests which will take place until Nov. 24, with
groups coming from several cities.
