SOUTHERN BAPTISTS ACTIVE IN RESETTLING CUBAN REFUGEES
KEY WEST, Fla.--A boatload of Cuban refugees arrives at Key West, Fla.,
top, and is followed by a tearful reunion, as the human drama continues
to unfold during the "freedom flotilla" operation between Mariel, Cuba,
and the south Florida city. As of May 8, it was estimated that
24,000 people had safely reached the U.S.
Southern Baptists are in the forefront of efforts to resettle
the Cubans, providing volunteers in processing centers, buses for
moving the refugees to Miami and even boat captains to sail
them from Mariel.
