Testament Collection Named After Goodspeed
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago's New Testament collection, largest
of its kind in U.S., was formally named the Edgar Johnson Goodspeed
Manuscripts at ceremonies here. Following ceremonies, best known item of
collection, a 13th century manuscript found by Dr. Goodspeed, was examined
(above) by University President Ernest C. Colwell, Dr. Goodspeed, and Harold H.
Swift, Chicago meat-packet and chairman of University board of trustees.
Volume was purchased for University for $25,000 by the late Edith
Rockefeller McCormick. Goodspeed collection includes 60 mss. in Greek,
Armenian, Latin, and Syriac.
