- Text transcribed from caption: PC-31863 BELGIAN ROYALTY COMFORTS NUN BRUSSELS -- Sister Anne Marie Merkens, rescued from Congolese rebels, is comforted by Belgian King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola on arrival at the Brussels airport. The Catholic nun was among many whites rescued from the hands of rebels in Stanleyville by Belgian paratroops. Sister Anne Marie told the Associated Press that she and other nuns had been forced by the rebels to parade down a street in Basoto, near Stanleyville. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31998 CONGO SURVIVORS GREETED BY POPE VATICAN CITY -- Pope Paul VI had a special greeting at a general audience for a group of nuns who escaped the massacre of missionaries at Wamba in the Congo. The Italian nuns are members of the Missionary Sisters of Verona. Other missionaries, including priest and Sisters, were in the general audience of some 1,000 persons in the Vatican’s Hall of Benedictions.
