- Description
- On July 4, 1963, the stated clerk of the UPCUSA, Eugene Carson Blake, was jailed in Baltimore, Maryland, for trespassing. Along with 283 activists from the Council on Racial Equality and the Baltimore Clergymen's Interfaith Committee, Blake had challenged the owners of Gwynn Oak Amusement Park to desegregate.

- Recorded at the 176th General Assembly, UPCUSA, Oklahoma City, Okla., 5-24-64. Two white Presbyterian ministers from the Presbytery of Union relate how they were assaulted in their hotel room on the night of May 11th 1964 in Camden, Ala., following a meeting with representatives of four Black churches.

- Description
- PP-22643 POLICE ARREST DR. KING FOR "LOITERING" MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is hustled off to jail by Montgomery police where he was detained for 15 minutes on a charge of loitering. Dr. King, leader of the Negro boycott against Jim Crow buses here in 1956, was arrested outside a City Hall courtroom where he had gone to attend a hearing for a Negro accused of attacking an integration leader. The 29-year-old pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist church here accused the police of beating and kicking him. He was released in $100 bond. - Text transcribed from caption: C-31442 NAACP LEADER AT CATHOLIC SOCIAL ACTION PARLEY BOSTON -- Roy Wilkins, executive secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is shown as he spoke before the National Catholic Social Action Conference at Boston College. At left are Msgr. George G. Higgins, director of the Social Action Department, National Catholic Welfare Conference, and Bishop Ernest J. Primeau of Manchester, N.H. Passage of the Civil Rights Act was a moral vindication of the "American dream," Mr. Wilkins said.
