- Title
- Punjab Sikhs form colorful colony.
- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: PUNJAB SIKHS FORM COLORFUL COLONY #1542 VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Some 40 years ago pioneering Sikhs from Punjab came here and settled around Vancouver, New Westminster and Victoria. Although they have become successful businessmen and farmers, they have kept many of their Punjab ways, most evident of which is their religion. Here young Sikh girls, wearers of bobby-socks and sport shoes like other Canadian girls, remove their shoes before entering to worship. Sikh religion was founded 450 years ago in India by Nanak, who was born a Hindu. (One of a Series) Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (SNS-TOR-ONT-MES-8C-6-ROTO)
