- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: C-32141 CYO CITES BOB HOPE NEW YORK -- Bob Hope, noted TV comedian (right), receives the 1964 Club of Champions Medal presented by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of New York for “dedication and service to the youth of America and particularly to the U.S. armed forces.” Presentation was made by Francis Cardinal Spellman, Archbishop of New York, at the CYO’s annual dinner. Shown with them is J. Peter Grace, CYO president. The citation to Mr. Hope noted that he has made annual Christmas tours of military bases overseas with an entertainment group. He was in South Vietnam at Christmas. The irrepressible comedian told the audience Cardinal Spellman had visited all the fighting fronts -- “Korea, South Vietnam…and the World’s Fair.” He added that he appreciated the friendship and goodwill of Catholics -- “I have to do a lot of flying…and they’ve got good connections.” Credit Must Read: RELIGIOUS NEWS SERVICE PHOTO (BB-NY-2B-65-NAB)

- Description
- Text transcribed from caption: P-31387 SIX-YEAR-OLD READS BIBLE ON RADIO NEW YORK -- Six-year-old Gary Falde tapes Biblical passages in modern English for radio broadcast by the American Bible Society on its "Can You Spare a Minute." The boy recorded 30 one-minute tapes, reading from the ABS's new publication, "The Right Time," which contains St. Mark's Gospel. Its English is simple, clear and direct. Gary is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Gaylerd Falde of Studio City, Cal. The father is president of the American Lutheran Church's South West District. Gary's parents discovered that he could read at the age of three when they saw him studying a television magazine. The tapes are offered by the ABS to about 2,000 radio stations around the country.
