- Text transcribed from caption: S-3983 BROOKLYN PARADE MARKS SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Ninety-thousand Brooklyn children and adults marched in 30 parades throughout the borough in celebrations marking the 130th anniversary of the Brooklyn Sunday School Union. The first parade was held in 1829. This float, one of the many in the different parades, carries the theme of the celebration, Christ, Our Salvation. - Text transcribed from caption: PROTESTANT GROUPS UNITE TO SERVE COMMUNITY #2071 BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Since February, 1944, a group of Protestant denominations have banded together here to work with the New York Mission Society in the administration and financing of a united, interracial religious and social service effort in the Navy Yard-Fort Greene area. Cooperating bodies have been the Brooklyn Council for Social Planning, the Brooklyn Church and Mission Federation, the New York City Mission Society, and Protestant Episcopal, Congregational, Presbyterian, Baptist and Methodist groups. - Text transcribed from caption: P-30828 GENERAL MACARTHUR One of America’s greatest soldiers in religious setting. At top left, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, who died in Washington, D.C., at 84, is shown in 1951 as he reviewed the annual parade of the Brooklyn Sunday School Union. On that day he greeted some 100,00 children of more than 300 Protestant churches. At top right, the strength of the man is displayed in a portrait taken during his years in Pacific areas. Below, General MacArthur is shown in 1955 when he received an “Award of Merit Extraordinary” from the then Protestant Episcopal Bishop Francis Eric Bloy of Los Angeles.
