- Text transcribed from caption: HISTORIC AMERICAN CHURCHES #3556 NEW YORK -- One of the most famous landmarks in New York is Trinity Church, at the head of Wall Street. Chartered in 1697 by King William III and endowed with broad lands, Trinity has played a great part in the city’s history. George Washington and members of his Congress worshipped in Trinity’s St. Paul Chapel. Trinity’s churchyard is the final resting place of Alexander Hamilton, first Secretary of the Treasury, William Bradford, who founded New York’s first newspaper, and Robert Fulton, who invented the steamboat.
