FEATHERS FLY AS DEMONSTRATORS SCUFFLE DURING DRAFT PROTEST
WASHINGTON--Feathers from a demonstrator's coat fly in Washington on
Mar.22, as anti-draft and counter protestors scuffle at the end of a
rally against the resumption of registration.
The demonstration, attended by over 30,000 persons, was the
largest against the draft since President Carter's decision in early
February to seek funds for registration. Many anti-war activists from
the 60's participated including, David W. Dellinger, one of the Chicago
7 defendants, the Rev. William Sloan Coffin Jr., senior minister of
New York's Riverside Church, Stokeley Carmichael, the black activist and
Bella S. Abzug, the feminist and former representative.
