FEATHERS FLY AS DEMONSTRATORS SCUFFLE DURING DRAFT PROTEST


WASHINGTON--Feathers from a demonstrator's coat fly in Washington on


Mar.22, as anti-draft and counter protestors scuffle at the end of a


rally against the resumption of registration.


The demonstration, attended by over 30,000 persons, was the


largest against the draft since President Carter's decision in early


February to seek funds for registration. Many anti-war activists from


the 60's participated including, David W. Dellinger, one of the Chicago


7 defendants, the Rev. William Sloan Coffin Jr., senior minister of


New York's Riverside Church, Stokeley Carmichael, the black activist and


Bella S. Abzug, the feminist and former representative.
